Heading back to work? Here are seven ways to kick the post-holiday blues
If you had a break over the festive season, you may be feeling a little iffy about returning to work. It’s common to feel a little unsure about returning to work after a holiday. From tiredness to apathy or feeling worse after the excesses of the holidays, here are some ways to plan a more gentle return.
Forget Monday
If you are able, plan your first day back for midweek. With a shorter first week back, you can get the ball rolling and have a weekend before you know it.
Give yourself some joy
Replace any broken or tarnished workwear, or gift yourself something small and joyful such as a coffee mug, delicious teas, desk plant, delicious and nutritious snacks or new stationery.
Plan a treat
Book in something enjoyable for mid-January, such as lunch with a friend, a weekend away or a movie. Knowing you have a treat coming up can make the transition feel lighter.
Check on your goals
The return to work can be a natural time to review your goals, make a note of your accomplishments last year and brainstorm new goals to inspire you in the coming months.
Keep up healthy habits
Were the holidays particularly indulgent? Return to eating well, exercise, sleeping and limiting alcohol as soon as possible. If you’re feeling boated and sluggish, ask your Pharmacist to help you get back on track.
Support
If your feelings are a symptom of greater job or workplace dissatisfaction, you may wish to plan strategies with your workplace’s HR, Employment Assistant Program or your GP.
