Anti-Ageing
With time, our skin will inevitably begin to show tell-tale signs of ageing. This will manifest in the form of visible lines, wrinkles or sagging. Fortunately, there are anti-ageing products available to help.
Nobody is immune from the ageing process, and it’s perfectly natural for our faces to lose some of their youthful glow. However, there are some ways you can help fight against the signs of ageing.
TerryWhite Chemmart is here to help you every step of the way.
Signs of ageing
There are several physical clues that your skin is beginning to age, including:
Facial lines. A primary sign of ageing is when your face starts to show visible lines. This can include crows’ feet (wrinkles that form at the corners of your eyes when you smile), laugh lines (creases that run between your nose and the corners of your mouth), or frown wrinkles (or ‘brow furrows’, these lines appear on your forehead).
Age spots. Age spots is the term for small, discoloured patches of skin which often cluster together as small dots. They can initially look like freckles.
Loss of elasticity. Over time your skin can start to become less firm and sag at specific places, particularly around the cheeks/chin and underneath the eyes.
Drooping eyelids. The fact that the skin covering our eyes is extremely thin means it can become loose very easily and makes the entire eye area look older.

What’s more, TerryWhite Chemmart pharmacies stock an enormous range of skincare products to help you embrace your increasing age with dignity. We’ll help you find a product to maintain your skin’s integrity as long as possible, whatever factor/s may be causing it to age (aside from time – we can’t do anything about that, sorry!).
Carol's story
Now in her early 60s, over the past 10 years, Carol has noticed many changes to her skin, including sagging, broken capillaries, increased wrinkles, dryness and sensitivity to temperature changes. Her skin is now thinner and more sensitive to temperature and irritants. Carol has also noticed an increase in age spots. “We literally fried ourselves in the 80s,” she says. “No one knew what we do now in terms of SPFs and sun damage. I’m definitely seeing the results of the way I behaved 20 to 30 years ago.”
Manageable causes of ageing
How can I care for my skin as I age?
Carol's tips
Carol has a holistic approach to skincare with an emphasis on moisturising. Here’s how she cares for her skin:
- Plenty of water
- Good moisturisers, serums, exfoliators, face masks and bath oil
- Specific products to deal with specific skin concerns
- Switch products when they no longer suit
- Use makeup that suits you, and adapt as necessary
- Double cleanse at night
- Active ingredients overnight
- Sun protection measures
- SPF in day cream and makeup
Protection against skin tears
In our 70s and beyond, the skin becomes much thinner, and tears more easily than when we were younger. Look for richer, more intensive emollient moisturisers, wear long-sleeved clothing and nourish your skin with a healthy, varied diet.
