8 ways to boost your health on your medical weight loss journey
Feel better on your medical weight loss journey with these tips to keep your mind and body in great shape.
Focus on your progress
Be specific about what’s changed: Maybe your mobility and flexibility are better, or your endurance has improved. Take note of these changes and recognize how far you’ve come and the work you’ve done to get there!
Quality calories
It’s OK if you can only eat a little, just ensure your calories are really nourishing. Eat plenty of fibre (for good digestive tract health), protein (to support your muscles and skeleton), unsaturated fats (for healthy cholesterol) and low GI carbohydrates (for long-lasting energy).
Keep moving
These types of treatments work in tandem with exercise. Keep your body strong and ready for the journey by incorporating gentle cardio such as walking, swimming, exercise bike riding or yoga.
Resistance training
It’s also important to ensure your muscles, joints and bones stay strong. Incorporate simple routines with hand weights, bands or your own body weight into your routine at least twice a week. If you are stuck, ask an exercise physiologist or personal trainer for ideas.
Plenty of water
Dehydration is no friend to a healthy digestive system. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to help break down your food, which also helps allow nutrients to be absorbed.
Social interaction
You may feel incredibly focused on your journey or have decided not to share it with others. However, avoid isolating yourself and continue reaching out to loved ones who keep your spirits high. Meet for a coffee, a walk or schedule a phone catch up as often as you can.
Recharge your batteries
Have strategies up your sleeve to boost your energy and reduce your stress. Listening to music or a podcast, pottering around your garden, going into nature, catching a movie, cooking for others or anything else that fills your soul.
Optimal mindset
Importantly, remember that you are not alone. Your Pharmacist, GP and others are there to ensure your medical weight loss journey unfolds well. Reach out if you are unsure or need extra support, whether physical or emotional. Everyone is cheering you on!
