7 Gift Wrapping Tips and Tricks
With your gifts sorted, it’s time to unpack your favourite festive wrapping paper, ribbon and tape. Let us take the hassle out of wrapping with these simple tips and tricks to add that polished touch and have your gifts looking extra special.
1. Hip to be square
It’s a lot easier to wrap something square or rectangular. If your gift is oddly shaped, find an empty box to place it in before you wrap. This is also great trick to confuse any would-be peekers trying to guess.
2. Doubly sticky
Double-sided tape is your secret weapon to crisp, neat folds that will be kept firmly in place top and bottom with double-sided tape working double time. Remember to firmly crease paper in place before you tape.
3. Cut to shape
Use the shape of your gift to measure out how much paper you’ll need before cutting. Allow a little overhang on each side, and trim off excess paper on the sides before you wrap for a neater finish.
4. Natural natives
Add a touch of native fauna by wrapping your gift with natural twine and finishing it with a gum leaf or wildflower in the bow. Make it fun by adding anything you can find as your decorative trim – we also love pinecones, dehydrated citrus slices, pine needles, polaroid photos, or buttons for extra flair. We recommend a natural gift wrap or brown paper to let the details shine.
5. Post-it panic
There’s nothing worse than wrapping everything beautifully before realising you don’t know what belongs to who. Avoid this by placing post-it notes with the names of recipients onto each gift as you go, then add name tags at the end.
6. Hard surfaces
Wrapping gifts on a hard surface not only helps to avoid tearing, but can help you secure the paper firmer for a neater finish.
7. Sleeve saver
Run out of paper on the edges you have to fold in? Simply cut a thick strip of another style of paper and wrap it over the exposed areas like a sleeve, securing in place in the centre. Finish the look with a ribbon and voila – your paper problem is fixed!
