A healthy vagina hosts a balance of different bacteria. Sometimes, this balance can be disturbed and result in overgrowth of one of several bacteria naturally found in the vagina. A bacterial imbalance in the vagina is not a dangerous vaginal infection, it can however be very uncomfortable. Bacterial imbalance may also cause a change to vaginal discharge. Discharge can become thin, watery, clear or grey coloured and there may be more of it than usual. You may notice a change in the smell such as a fishy, unpleasant odour, especially after unprotected sexual intercourse.
