Care should be taken when using the dressing under medical devices near the nose and mouth, where moisture can build up and aect adherence, leading to dressing movement. • The use of ALLEVYN GENTLE BORDER Dressings, as part of a program of prophylaxis against the development of a pressure ulcer, does not preclude the need to continue to develop and follow a comprehensive pressure ulcer prevention protocol (e.g. regular repositioning, appropriate support surfaces, skin care and frequent skin assessments). • Due to the gentle adhesive used, do not use this dressing to secure other medical devices to the patient. • If reddening or sensitisation occurs discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional. • Cutting the dressing will compromise the bacterial barrier and showerproof properties of the dressing. • Do not immerse the dressing in water. • Do not use with oxidizing agents such as hypochlorite solutions (e.g. EUSOL) or hydrogen peroxide as these can reduce the absorbency of the dressing. • Single use only, and should not be re-used as cross contamination or infection may occur and the dressing may be ineective. • Once opened, do not retain unused dressings for application at a later date. • If used on infected wounds, the infection should be managed as per local clinical protocol ALLEVYN GENTLE BORDER Dressings are for healthcare professional use or for use by patients under the direction of a healthcare professional. When required, healthcare professionals should provide appropriate advice to patients on how to apply, monitor the dressing, remove, and dispose of the dressing and when to contact a healthcare professional as detailed in this leaflet.
Cleanse the application site. Ensure surrounding skin is clean, dry and free from excess hair. 2. Select appropriate dressing size. Ensure the absorbent pad covers the entire wound or area to be protected. The scale on the pouch is for guidance only. Avoid contact of the pouch with the wound. 3. Remove first liner and anchor the adhesive side of the dressing to the skin. If applying the sacrum dressing, place the narrow end a minimum of 2cm/ ¾in. above the anal sphincter, then smooth the dressing over the sacrum. 4. Remove remaining liner/liners. Smooth over. If used on a wound, ensure absorbent pad covers the wound. 5. Smooth down the borders. Ensure there are no creases that could compromise the seal. The dressing can be repositioned as required. 6. ALLEVYN GENTLE BORDER Dressings can be cut especially to dress wounds on the heel, elbow and other awkward areas. Always use clean technique when cutting the dressing. Cutting the dressing will compromise the bacterial barrier and showerproof properties of the dressing. Ensure any exposed foam areas are covered with an appropriate film dressing taking care not to cover the entire dressing. For further guidance on application of Heel and Sacrum see diagrams on dressing pouch or carton. For necrotic or sloughy wounds, ALLEVYN GENTLE BORDER Dressings can be used in conjunction with INTRASITE GEL Hydrogel wound dressings. Observation when used for pressure ulcer prevention: frequently inspect the skin for pressure damage by li ing back one corner, inspecting and then repositioning the dressing. Removal: Li one corner and slowly peel back until completely removed. Dispose of ALLEVYN GENTLE BORDER Dressings according to local clinical protocols, or throw away hygienically a er use.
