Pneumococcal vaccination
Pneumococcal disease is a bacterial infection. It is especially serious for young children and older people. It can cause pneumonia, bloodstream infection and meningitis (inflammation of the membranes around the brain).
Pneumococcal vaccination is recommended for:
- Infants and children as part of the routine childhood schedule (at 2, 4 and 12 months, with an additional dose at 6 months for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and children with specified medical risk conditions)
- Children and adolescents with specified high-risk medical conditions for pneumococcal disease
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 25+ years
- People aged 65+ years
- Adults with specified high-risk medical conditions for pneumococcal disease
Please note: the age at which pneumococcal vaccination can be administered in a pharmacy varies by state and territory. Check with your TerryWhite Chemmart pharmacist beforehand to confirm eligibility in your location.
Fees may apply.
