Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) are highly contagious viral diseases that can lead to serious, and in some cases fatal, complications. Immunisation is the best protection for you and your loved ones.

Unfortunately, the vaccine is not suitable for women who are pregnant or planning to fall pregnant soon. If you fall into this category, please speak to your GP for more advice.

ACT, NT, NSW, SA*, & WA

The vaccination can be given to those over the age of 5 years from your eligible pharmacist.

The vaccination can be given to those over the age of 2 years from your eligible pharmacist.

The vaccination can be given to those over the age of 15 years from your eligible pharmacist.

National Immunisation Program (NIP) eligibility

The National Immunisation Program (NIP) provides free MMR vaccines to the following eligible Medicare card holders:

  • People aged up to 20 years who did not receive this vaccination in childhood
  • Refugees and other humanitarian entrants of any age who did not receive this vaccination in childhood

However, as regulations may change on a state-by-state basis, check current recommendations with your GP or Pharmacist. To vaccinate babies or younger children, you will need to see your GP.

The MMR vaccination is recommended for:

  • Children aged 12 months of age and older
  • Adolescents and adults born during or since 1966 who have not received 2 doses of measles-containing vaccine, particularly;
  • Healthcare workers
  • Parents or childcare workers
  • Those set to travel overseas
  • People who work in long-term care facilities
  • People who work in correctional facilities.
