Tips to manage Mounjaro side effects

As with all medicines, you may experience side effects with Mounjaro. The most common side effects of Mounjaro are nausea and diarrhoea. These side effects are usually only mild to moderate and decrease over time in most patients.

They are most common when first starting Mounjaro or when the dose is increased. Please refer to the Consumer Medicine Information (CMI) leaflet, HERE for a full list of side effects that may occur with Mounjaro.

Tips for managing nausea

To help relieve nausea, try eating smaller meals, eating slowly, and avoiding fried or fatty foods.

If your nausea is severe or persists, consult your doctor or speak with your TerryWhite Chemmart Pharmacist for advice.

If you experience or have ever experienced any of the following, please speak to your doctor immediately.

  • Severe pain in the stomach and back that does not go away, and vomiting and/or diarrhoea. These can be signs of pancreatitis (inflammation of your pancreas).
  • Allergic reaction after taking this medicine. Symptoms of an allergic reaction may include rashes, itching and rapid swelling of the tissues of the neck, face, mouth and/or throat, hives, or problems breathing or swallowing.
  • Gallbladder complaints, including gallstones or an inflamed gallbladder. Symptoms of gallbladder complaints may include sudden, severe pain in your upper stomach (abdomen), fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), or clay-coloured stools.
