9 tips and tricks to stay well this winter
Winter is almost here, and that means cold and flu season is just around the corner. Thankfully, there are a few things we can do to stay well during the colder months:
Excercise
It's easy to let exercise fall by the wayside as soon as the days get shorter and the temperature starts to drop.
Why not find an activity to do with friends to help with accountability or add more incremental exercise, like short walks or stretching breaks, to keep your body moving throughout the day.
Protect against germs
Washing your hands regularly is one of the best ways to stop the spread of common viruses.
If you can’t wash your hands as often as you’d like, keep sanitizers handy, especially after being in crowded places.
Stay hydrated
While it’s wonderful to indulge in warm winter drinks, it’s still important to drink plenty of water during the colder months.1
Try adding fresh berries, lemon or lime slices for some exciting flavour and variety.
Take care of your skin
Apply moisturisers regularly to protect against dry, cracked skin. And, don’t forget the sunscreen! The sun’s UV rays can still damage your skin even in winter.
Keep up with your vaccinations
For protection against flu and COVID-19, keep your vaccinations up to date.

Eat well
A diet full of essential vitamins and minerals like zinc and vitamin C is important for immune system support.
Eating plenty of brightly coloured fruits and vegetables can help fight off illness and defend against reinfection.2
Keep warm
Dress for the conditions and make use of layers to help stay warm when you’re out and about.
At home, check for gaps in doors and windows to seal out draughts and close curtains and blinds to help keep the heat in.
Make a plan
Talk to your GP and put a plan in place to manage any pre-existing or chronic health conditions that might be affected by the cold weather.
Maintain a healthy home
We often spend more time inside during winter, so it’s important to maintain healthy hygiene practices.
Wipe down high traffic areas like light switches and door handles regularly and wash soft toys and bedding to remove dust mites and mould.
