Ready, set, summer: 6 steps for sandal-ready feet
As sandal season approaches, it’s time to return our attention to our feet. After months of being bundled up in snug socks and slippers, they might need some extra care to look and feel their best. With these simple steps, your feet will be ready to shine in your favorite summer sandals! Get ready, set…summer!
1. Check for issues
Rough heels, dry skin and fungal nails are common after winter. Unsure if a nail issue is fungal? Look for thickened, discoloured or brittle nails. Ask your Pharmacist if you notice any signs and start treatment early.
2. Prevent fungal infections
Keep feet dry and change socks regularly, especially in warm weather. Choose breathable footwear and avoid going barefoot in public areas like pools or locker rooms. Find out more about fungal toenail infections here.
3. Exfoliate
Heels looking a tad cracked and unsightly? Smooth them through regular exfoliation with a foot file or paddle. Options exist to do this both during and after your shower, depending.
4. Moisturise
Slather your feet with a foot balm, using initially morning and night for the smoothest results. For an extra boost, apply a thick layer at night and wear socks to bed to lock in the moisture.
5. Keep nails neat
Trim nails straight across to avoid ingrown nails and be gentle with your cuticles. If you wear polish, let your nails breathe between applications to prevent yellowing.
6. Choose the right footwear
Opt for sandals that provide good arch support and help prevent blisters and foot strain by ensuring they fit well and aren’t too tight. Sandals with covered heels can help minimise cracking.
