Your guide to summer skin

Looking for a sun kissed glow without the harmful effects? Try our tips to achieve a golden glow, no sunshine in sight.

The day before

Exfoliate: Use a gentle body scrub or dry brush to remove dead skin cells, focusing on drier areas like your elbows, knees, ankles and wrists.

Shave or wax: At least a day before to avoid irritation and ensure a smooth surface.

Moisturise strategically: Apply an oil-free moisturiser to drier areas to nourish and prevent the tan from clinging unevenly.

On the day

Protect palms and nails: Wear tanning mitts to protect your hands and rub petroleum jelly into your nails and cuticles to prevent staining.

Start with larger areas: Apply your tanner in circular motions to your legs, arms and torso first, blending as you go.

Then handle trickier spots: Use residual product from the mitt for your hands, feet, elbows and knees.

Blending on the face: If using tanning drops, mix these with your favorite facial moisturiser or serum and apply sparingly to avoid a heavy look. For mousse or lotion, use a big makeup brush for an even blend.

Afterwards: Allow the tan to dry for 10–15 minutes before dressing, then wear loose, dark clothing. Avoid sweating or swimming for 6-8 hours afterwards and use moisturiser after your next shower to keep the glow.

Keep the glow

Sunscreen: Apply daily to help protect your skin and keep that gorgeous glow year around.

Moisturise daily: This helps extend the life of your fake tan by keeping dry skin at bay.

Top up: Use a gradual tanning lotion or add drops to your favourite moisturiser every few days.

Which type of self-tan should I choose?

It depends on your skin type and confidence with self-tanners.

Mousses: Ideal for a quick-drying, streak-free finish. Works well for beginners.

Drops: Great for adding a touch more glow when mixed with your moisturiser.

Lotions: Perfect for dry skin as they can provide extra hydration while tanning.

Gradual: Designed to help you achieve your ideal glow bit-by-bit.

Quick: Your go-to when time is off the essence!
