Yes! You can care for your skin on a budget. Some people enjoy 10+ step skincare routines inspired by trends in ingredients and products - and this is great!

However, more products do not necessarily mean better care. If your goal is to have glowing, healthy skin on a budget, we have good news. This is absolutely possible!

First, let’s go back to basics

1. Know your skin type

Is your skin dry, normal, oily, combination, acne-prone, sensitive or something else? Your skin’s needs may change over time so check with your Pharmacist if you’re not sure what skin type you have.

2. Cleanse

Remove the impurities (think pollutants, makeup, oil and more) that build up on our skin daily. Exfoliating once or twice a week further helps slough away dead skin cells and encourage fresh cell turnover.

3. Nourish

Keep your skin nourished from the outside in and inside out! Eat a good diet and consider using serums as needed to target specific concerns.

4. Hydrate

Moisturising helps protect the skin barrier, keeping it healthy, locking in nutrients and defending against outside damage.

Do you know these 10 free ways to care for your skin?

1. Drink plenty of water – Hydrated skin is healthier skin.

2. Change your pillowcase often – The day’s dead skin cells, grime, makeup and pollutants from our hair and skin build up there

3. Limit your time in the sun – Slip, slop, slap, seek and slide and take special action when the UV index is above three

4. Don’t pick at your skin – Leave pimples and sores alone! Picking at our skin can transfer germs, make it worse or even create a scar.

5. Clean your makeup brushes – Oil, sweat, dust, bacteria and more accumulate on them.

6. Wear less makeup – Identify some makeup free days each week to give your skin some time to breathe

7. Reduce stress – Stress releases the hormone cortisol, and prolonged stress has impacts our skin’s moisture levels, causing dryness, dullness and more.

8. Get good quality sleep – Everyone, sleep is amazing! It decreases cortisol, produces collagen and gives our cells (including skin cells) time to regenerate.

9. Sleep on your back – The friction between your pillow and face from sleeping facedown may exacerbate the appearance of wrinkles.

10. Quit smoking – Smokers’ skin ages more quickly and takes a longer time to heal if damaged.
