Know about how serums and eye creams can help reduce the appearance of some signs of ageing – but still feel a bit confused about the order of your skincare routine? Here's a page to bookmark: Your mature skincare routine, in just six steps.

1. Exfoliate

Buff your skin for extra brightness and rejuvenation. Wet a soft sponge or flannel with warm water to help remove dead skin cells.

Tip: You may find you only need to complete this step once or twice a week.

2. Cleanser

Use a gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser (one which won’t block pores) to remove make up, oil and other pollutants. This allows the rest of your products to enter properly and be effective!

Tip: Look for a cleanser with ingredients such as ceramides and hyaluronic acid for an extra boost for your skin.

3. Serum

Add a serum with active ingredients – such as niacinamide B vitamins – to help address different skin concerns, such as targeting dry skin and improving skin elasticity.

Tip: Ask your Pharmacist about which active ingredients are best applied at night.

4. Moisturisers

Our skin gets drier and fine lines are accentuated with age, thanks in part to decreasing sebum levels. Day and night creams protect the skin barrier to lock in active ingredients, enabling them to work.

Tip: Some moisturisers contain additional active ingredients, such as collagen or amino-peptides.

5. Eyes

Show some love to your peepers with a dedicated eye cream, ready to brighten and smooth the eye area.

Tip: Apply gently to the under-eye area, using your ring or little finger, avoiding “dragging” on this delicate skin.

6. Foundation

Let your moisturiser settle for at least 15 minutes (this helps with smoothness!) and apply your foundation, using a little less on areas where you may have fine lines (think eyes, chin and upper lip).

Tip: A primer-foundation-concealer combination foundation ticks off multiple makeup steps in one go!
