As we age, it’s important to treat our skin with even more love than usual. Well, we have you covered with these go-to plan to care for more mature skin: Your morning skincare routine, in just seven steps.

1. Cleanser

Choose a gentle cleanser and use it morning and night to remove make up and pollutants. This allows the rest of your products to enter properly and be effective!

Tip: Look for a low pH cleanser for a gentler clean.

2. Exfoliator

Chemical exfoliants with alpha-hydroxy acids can help remove dead skin cells. You may find you only need to complete this step once or twice a week is enough.

Tip: Like to keep things simple? A soft sponge can also work well.

3. Serum

These contain active ingredients – such as niacinamide, ceramides, hyaluronic acid, vitamins C and E, retinol (vitamin A), bakuchiol, peptides – help address different skin concerns. Find out more about serums

Tip: Only apply retinol products at night (as they can increase your sensitivity to sunburn) and avoid when pregnant or breastfeeding.

4. Moisturiser

Our sebum levels decrease as we age, which can lead to drier skin and contribute to fine lines. Moisturise to help replenish your skin barrier and "lock in" those actives.

Tip: You can find moisturisers with active ingredients in them as well.

5. Primer

These may be suited to helping smooth out pores, reduce the look of fine lines, create a matte look or increase hydration.

Tip: Make sure your primer complements your shade of foundation. Your retail assistants will be happy to help!

6. Foundation

Look for a lightweight variety, using a little less on areas where you may have fine lines (think eyes, chin and upper lip).

Tip: Let your moisturiser settle in for 15-30 minutes before applying your foundation, to help with smoothness.

7. Sunscreen

As ageing skin loses plumpness and elasticity, look for a hydrating, antioxidant-rich, broad-spectrum sunscreen to help protect you from the effects of UVA and UVB rays.

Tip: This could be the most important product in your bathroom cabinet.
