Are you lips looking a tad worse for wear? Our lips don’t have oil or sweat glands to help hydrate, their delicate skin is susceptible to the drying effects of dry air, cold weather, indoor heating, wind and UV rays. Help lips out with steps to help prevent dryness in the first place – plus a final touch for a luscious look!
10 lip tips to try today
1. Hydrate
Drink plenty of water or caffeine-free tea throughout the day to hydrate from within.
2. Balm
Apply as often as needed. There’s no such thing as too much!
3. At home
If your home is especially dry, consider using a humidifier.
4. Easy on the heat
Heat the person before the room! Wear warm clothing and take care not to overheat your home.
5. Sun protection
Protect your lips from sun damage with a lip balm containing minimum SPF 30.
6. Don’t lick
When saliva evaporates it further dries out our lips. (Consider a flavour free product if you are tempted to nibble at sweet-smelling lip balms!)
7. Balanced diet
Eat foods rich in vitamins A, C, E, and B-complex are good for skin health, including our lips.
8. Quit
Smoking contributes to dry lips and wrinkles around the mouth.
9. Treat
Look for products with shea butter, beeswax, cacao, hyaluronic acid, glycerin, ceramides and natural oils. Avoid alcohol and fragrances, which may be irritating.
10. Exfoliate
Choose a gentle exfoliator, or alternatively, mix sugar and olive oil into a paste. Once or twice a week, gently work into your lips in a circular motion, finishing with lip balm.
