When it comes to our skin’s health, what we eat has a very important impact. The delicious news is that some of the best foods for our skin, are also some of the tastiest. Read on for ideas for your next grocery shop.

          

12 types of foods your skin loves 
          

Nuts

Snack on almonds, walnuts and other nuts (salt free please) for fats your skin loves plus antioxidant vitamin E.

            

Barley

A low GI wholegrain; low GI foods can help skin quality overall (try adding to winter soups and stews).

            

Mussels and oysters

Packed with protein, omega-3 fats and zinc. And celebrate – because tinned varieties, easy to pop in the trolley, count as well!

             

Oily fish

Look to two serves a week of salmon, sardines, anchovies, mackerel to get the benefit of their high omega-3 levels.

              

Berries and kiwi

Both rich in antioxidant vitamin C which is needed to make collagen, a skin-loving protein. Fun fact: kiwi has more vitamin C than oranges.

             

Carrots, pumpkin and sweet potatoes

Contain beta-carotene, an antioxidant which also forms vitamin A, essential for skin repair and maintenance.

             

Leafy green veggies

Including kale, spinach, silverbeet and Swiss chard. These pack a vitamin punch.

             

Broccoli

High in zinc, vitamin A and vitamin C, all of which our skin loves! It also contains sulforaphane, an antioxidant helping fight the damaging effects of free radicals.

             

Avocados

Avocados are a good source of healthy fats plus the antioxidant vitamin E.

             

Linseed, chia and pumpkin seeds

Sprinkle on a dose of ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) a plant-based type of omega-3 fatty acid, which could help reduce the dulling effects of smoking and pollution.

             

Yoghurt

Probiotics, hooray! These help defend against inflammation, and may help fight the inflammation that flares up acne, eczema and psoriasis.

             

Tea, coffee and dark chocolate

Full of powerful antioxidants called polyphenols. (Ensure your chocolate option is at least 60-70% cocoa to get the benefits.)
