10 hay fever commandments
Pollen is teeny-tiny but there are things we can do to reduce its presence. The idea is to avoid pollen as much as possible and reduce the amount that is brought into your home.
1. Check the pollen count and stay indoors with windows closed if it's high
This helps limit pollen’s chances of getting inside in the first place!
2. If you do go outdoors, apply Vaseline below your nostrils
To trap pollen before you have a chance to inhale it.
3. Regularly wipe down surfaces and furniture, and vacuum floors and cloth sofas
Helps wipe away some of the pollen you’re exposed to once it’s come inside.
4. Wear wraparound sunglasses
This helps limit the pollen that gets in your eyes when outdoors.
5. Shower and change after coming home on a high pollen count day.
Down the sink with you, pollen!
6. Decorate with indoor plants instead of fresh flowers
There’s a reason bees like flowers, after all.
7. Use re-circulated air in the car
To avoid bringing in pollen (and other irritants) from outside.
8. Dry your clothes on an indoor airer or hang them outside on low pollen count day
Pollen can stick to your clothes as they dry and come inside when you bring in the washing.
9. Delegate mowing and raking to someone without hay fever
Because sharing is caring when it comes to housework.
10. Wipe pets with a microfibre cloth when they go back indoors
You want your pet back inside with you – not the pollen that got trapped in their fur.
